I just got back to Los Angeles from Mexico City last night, my fourth time there, which feels like enough to start having “favorites” but not enough to pretend I know the city. I went for a friend’s birthday, stayed a few nights with the group, then decided to tack on two solo days after everyone else flew off to Oaxaca for the beach. (Sometimes staying behind is the best part of the trip.)

Mexico City is a place that feels impossible to finish. It has something like 170 museums (I’ve been to maybe five?) and what I’m convinced is the best food scene in the world. Here are a few notes while everything is still fresh — the places I stayed, ate, and loved.
